Getting Search Engines to Index Your Website

The very basics and beginning of search engine optimization involves actually getting your website indexed into the search engine’s system.  And this isn’t only for your home page.  You need to get each of your important pages indexed in the search engines.  If you don’t, then people will not find that page by typing in keywords in the search engine such as Google.

The more pages you have indexed in search engines, the better because it adds authority and trust for your site.  This is why it’s important to have a big site with many pages.  But a large site still doesn’t help you in a search engine perspective unless those pages are indexed.

So what does having a page indexed mean and how do you get all your pages indexed in the search engines?

In the simplest terms, having a page indexed in the search engine means that it’s recorded and recognized as a page on your site.  Sometimes it needs to be shown as an important page for being included into the system’s index.

A page can be indexed by implementing a few different strategies.  Our Cincinnati search engine optimization team works at getting those page indexed by:

  • Including the page URL into your site’s “sitemap.xml” file.
  • Inter linking to those pages from other pages that are already indexed.
  • Getting external links to those pages from other sites.

These are some of the ways to help get your site ranked and recognized as an authoritative site in the search engines.  Contact us for information about our web design agency’s practices for boosting your business or read more about SEO.
