Check your daily traffic and conversion reports on Google Analytics. If your organic traffic is consistently improving then your SEO is working.
A good SEO strategy will include analyzing and improving your site for usability. One way to check your site usability is to check bounce rates, and conversion rates per page on Google Analytics. This will help prove if your changes are successful.
Also look at traffic by keywords in Google Analytics. This will tell you if your traffic is increasing for your keywords.
If your SEO provider sends you ranking reports, make sure they are calculating an overall visibility for your keywords on the search engines. This is done by dividing the Visibility Score by the maximum possible score that would be achieved if all of your keywords were ranked number 1 for all engines. In other words, if a site ranked number 1 for all their keywords on all engines being monitored, their Visibility Percentage would be 100%. In contrast, if a site was not ranked in the top 30 for any keywords on any engines being monitored, then the Visibility Percentage would be zero. The Visibility Percentage gives you a number to gauge your progress. Otherwise it’s hard to tell if you are making any progress.
Link building reports are useful to show that the SEO company is consistently building new incoming links to your site and should include page rank of the linking sites, urls and link text used.
Schedule monthly meetings with your SEO agency to review strategy and progress on your SEO campaign.
Ideally your sales and revenue figures will coincide with your traffic and conversions on Google Analytics. Do a side-by-side comparison of your sales and revenues next to your Google Analytics organic traffic and conversion report, you should be able to see consistent patterns.
