The search engine, Google is recognized as the top search engine today because it has lead the path toward great search results for keywords. This has attracted a large portion of people coming to the internet to search for relevant sites. Now webmasters are always wondering how they can get on top of those search results and get free traffic to their web site. For us to help clients achieve higher results in Google’s search results page, we have to look at how they rank websites.
One determining factor which Google helps rank a website is Page Rank. Page Rank was invented by Google to calculate the authority of websites on a scale of 1 to 10. A Page Rank of one is considered low authority, while a ten is considered high authority. A Page Rank of ten is usually unachievable except by huge sites such as Google and Yahoo themselves.
Ways to help build Page Rank or authority are to create lots of content on your site and link a lot to your important pages. Another way is to build links from other sites that have authority. These should both be done simultaneously to be effective.
So is Page Rank Important?
Often times you will hear webmasters discussing if Page Rank is important and some will say that it’s not, because a site might have been above them with a lower Page Rank score. The fact is, Page Rank is important, but it isn’t the only determining factor in ranking a web site or page at the top. I often see websites with a Page Rank of 3 ranking higher than a site with a Page Rank of 4. There are far more things Google will take into consideration when ranking sites than just Page Rank. Page Rank isn’t everything when ranking a site, but it is a large factor.
