Many traditional forms of advertising, such as, phone book and printed directories, are fading out. More and more people are searching online, via search engines. Therefore, advertising dollars, previously used on these types of printed advertising should now be pumped into search engine optimization. The need for people to be able to find your business has not gone away the technology has just changed.
Think back to the days when all of your competitors were listed in the phone book yellow pages or they were all listed in a certain industrial directory or they attended a particular trade show. You could not afford to be left out then, and you can’t afford to be left out now. Your competitors most likely already have rankings, on the search engines. In order to compete, you must get search engine rankings also.
Search engine optimization can deliver the traffic that previously came in through the phone, walk-in, and mail. You must also have a strategy for how to convince the customer to buy once you get them to your web site. The site must be attractive and able to persuade the customer to act. Your site must be strategically designed to attract and retain new and existing business.
Often people are looking at their web site as a necessary evil. That thinking needs to shift to viewing your web site as a selling tool.
